Turning Hardships into Growth

I started working with this participant three months ago, and much of our work together has centered on her experience of missing/grieving her child who is currently in DCFS as well as processing her own experience of being in the system.

The “Growing Resilience” workshop was introduced as a creative exploration of the theme of “resilience” that arose during a previous session. She described the water from the hose as symbolic of turning hardships into growth, symbolized by herself as the bright yellow flower, growing out of the bumpy road of her own life.

Afterwards, she shared that this exercise gave her a different and broader perspective of her own journey, and asked to do more art-making/creative activities in future sessions.
