I held this workshop in a one-on-one counseling session with a client. This client is on her path of healing from sexual violence, but finds the ups and downs to be quite overwhelming. This workshop allowed her to identify the high, low, and resiliency zones she experiences on a daily basis. She originally wrote down concepts of each zone and then later added artwork that depicts the topics she placed in her zones.
During this workshop, we listened to some of the client’s favorite music as a way to help the environment feel more relaxed. This was her opportunity to place her thoughts and feelings onto paper and have a vulnerable moment with how she is feeling inside. Conversations arose that the client was not expecting to surface. This allowed us to dive deeper into why she may act in certain ways and to create more tailored coping/grounding skills for when certain feelings appear.
Once the workshop was finished, she stated she wanted to take her artwork home and have it on her fridge as a way to visibly see and check in with what zone she might be in at a particular time, and use her grounding skills to get back into her resiliency zone. This workshop was a great way for her to get her thoughts out on paper and use them as a tool to regulate herself during the highs and lows she might experience on a daily basis or during her healing journey.
