Art Affirming Worth

I work at a substance use disorder and mental health dual diagnosis outpatient facility with adults, most of whom are conditionally released to treatment by courts. Our supplies are limited and I adapted the Affirmation Mandala Shrinky Dink workshop by printing simple mandalas for the group.

The client whose art is pictured decided to color a tiger as he shared tigers represent strength and resilience. This client is conditionally released to treatment by court but his willingness and motivation to stay in recovery have been persistent throughout his journey in our care.

He shared that he always enjoys this group as it allows him to utilize his creativity again in his recovery as he did not utilize these skills for a long time in his active addiction. He identified his affirmation as “I am worthy to be loved, I know that I enrich the world around me, and my soul resonates beyond the universe.” He shared he chose the colors of the rainbow to color the tiger as he is living in a brighter and more colorful world in his recovery.
