We Have A Voice

This “Uplifting Voices: Facilitator Stories” video features Lucy Tschachtli, one of our longest serving facilitators. She first experienced art as a tool for healing in 1991, on AWBW Founder Cathy Salser’s first tour across the country sharing art as a window of safety and connection at domestic violence shelters. A Domestic Violence Counselor at Child and Family Services in Buffalo, New York, Lucy officially became a Windows Facilitator in 1993.

In this video, she speaks about a project she collaborated on with the Erie County Coalition Against Family Violence titled “We Have a Voice”. For the project, clients made collages on postcards, along with writing on the back, that represented programs and services that meant a lot to them. Copies were made of the postcards and given to the legislators that were voting on these programs, providing a unique and creative way for clients to champion their voices.
