A 10-year-old girl in a group I facilitated identified that on the outside she shows the world she is bold, smart, kind, happy, and creative. She hides depression, fear, self-blame, and loneliness on the inside.
She feels that she has to hide her true colors. This makes her feel isolated from her peers. As she has always put on a happy front, this workshop allowed for her to express her internal struggles.
Because of this workshop, I was able to speak with the school counselor and get this child additional therapy services to focus on the depression she has been hiding. As an ongoing participant, I have seen her true colors start to emerge a little bit more each workshop that she completes.
