Gratitude in Our Darkest Moments

Since it was snowing outside at the time, the group thought it would be neat to do this as a “snowflakes of thanks” activity. So we adapted on the spot and changed out supplies to do snowflakes.

We all had fun with it and the kids were really excited to get to be doing this activity with all of the adults. Everyone really came up with some creative ideas for decorating their snowflakes to represent the things they were thankful for from their past, present, and future.

One that really stuck out to me was a lady that talked about her two kids being a true blessing that came out of the abusive relationship she had been in. She decorated that snowflake with a two hearts pattern around the snowflake colored pink and blue for her son and her daughter. She did one snowflake decorated in our agency colors with PAVE in the middle to represent how thankful she is for our shelter and advocacy services. The last snowflake she attached a home in the middle to represent her goal of getting her own home with the housing voucher that she was recently approved for.

As this client said, “It’s always a good reminder that even in our darkest moments there is always something to be thankful for.”
