Finding Freedom in Telling Their Stories

This artwork was from women survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The art was expressions of places in their heart that gave them peace. The art of the woman with teardrops was her pain from loving and not receiving love back.

As the women began to draw and soothing jazz music played outdoors on the patio where we worked they were quiet and seemed to go on a spiritual journey to their place of expressions.

After the session was over they stared at their work and smiled and complimented each other. Then each woman would stand, holding up their art, and tell their story. Telling the story caused a release and freedom.
