This “Uplifting Voices: Facilitator Stories” video features Lucy Tschachtli, one of our longest serving facilitators. She first experienced art as a tool for healing in 1991, on AWBW Founder Cathy Salser’s first tour across the country sharing art as a window of safety and connection at domestic violence shelters. A Domestic Violence Counselor at Child and Family Services in Buffalo, New York, Lucy officially became a Windows Facilitator in 1993.
Here she speaks about the power of art in advocacy work — how sharing survivor art when lobbying in Albany got legislators to pay attention to what advocates were fighting for, leading to change in laws and policies.
