Ripples of Self-Care for New Facilitators

Our team recently participated in AWBW’s “Ripples of Self-Care” art workshop following their in-house, on-demand training for new facilitators. We intentionally set aside time to reflect on the importance of self-care. Together we discussed how, just as we assess the needs of those we serve, it is equally important to assess and be aware and intentional with our own needs.

I had the opportunity to co-facilitate with another AWBW facilitator, which added meaningful depth to the experience. It allowed us to model different facilitation styles and provide practical examples for newer AWBW facilitators. This collaboration ultimately enriched the workshop.

Through the sharing of peaceful artwork inspired by nature, music, and meaningful quotes, we explored the metaphor of pebbles creating ripples. This led us to reflect on the “pebbles” we currently use, or hope to use, in our own self-care practices—small, intentional actions that can create lasting impact.

Although I had prepared a variety of materials, I chose to turn the space over to the team, allowing them the freedom to create. Each person produced something unique and deeply personal, reflecting their individual self-care journey.

For me, this experience felt like a full-circle moment in my own self-care journey—not only continuing the work for myself but also helping to pave the way for my team and future AWBW facilitators. The workshop served as a meaningful reminder that caring for ourselves is essential to sustaining the work that we do.
