Our Healing Hands

Our Healing Hands was a workshop centered on celebrating our sense of touch and bringing awareness to all the creative and connective ways we use our hands. The session incorporated the Japanese healing art of Jin Shin Jyutsu, which aligns each finger to an emotional current: the thumb to worry, the index to fear, the middle to anger, the ring to sadness, and the pinky to efforting (or trying too hard).

In the days leading up to the event, community members were encouraged to observe their hands in motion and stillness, reflecting on how they create, comfort, and communicate through touch. During the workshop, a grounding Jin Shin Jyutsu meditation and journaling practice invited participants to reflect on questions such as ‘What am I holding onto that isn’t mine to fix?’ and ‘Where can I allow ease instead of effort?’

Using drawing, painting, and collage, participants created two symbolic hands: the left representing present energy and the right embodying balance and intention. Through color, texture, and form, emotions transformed into visual expression, from release and forgiveness to courage and calm.

This workshop offered a space for grounding, creativity, and renewal. By listening through the hands, participants discovered how much wisdom lies in what we hold, what we carry, and what we are finally ready to let go of.
