This individualized art workshop called, Letter to the Parent was a great success with this 16-year-old youth participant.
The art workshop provided a safe window of time and space for the client to share openly without fear and without judgement. She openly discussed guilt, anger, and frustration related to her relationship with her mother and expressed insight into how anger escalates when communication breaks down.
The youth actively participated in the writing exercise and reported the prompts helped her articulate emotions she struggles to verbalize. She demonstrated motivation to continue using writing and drawing as healthy coping tools.
“The prompts really helped me express my emotions that I struggle to verbalize,” she said. “I feel much calmer after writing this letter.”
