Discovering Her Superpower

The participant struggles with having a positive self-image. Thus, this art workshop, Self-Portrait for Teens, was selected specifically for her to recognize her strengths, activate her self-love, and increase her self-esteem. The youth demonstrated increased ability to articulate positive personal qualities. She engaged in self-reflection regarding identity and personal interests and exhibited positive affect when discussing strengths and appearance—something that had not happened before.

“I got to draw how I feel about myself as an anime person,” she reflected after the workshop. “My anime superpower would be super strength.”

The youth continued development of healthy self-esteem and identity formation over time. As a result of engaging in this self-portrait art activity, she is progressing toward her personal goals related to improving self-image, emotional expression, and self-acceptance.
