Art Encouraging Connection

It had been a long time since my girlfriends and I had all been able to gather together. We are each in different seasons of life, with some raising kids, some caring for pets, and all of us, including me, balancing busy schedules and responsibilities. Although we care deeply for one another, it has become harder to make time to connect in meaningful ways.

When we finally came together, I used the opportunity to practice my workshop facilitation skills in a relaxed and supportive setting. I brought art supplies, offered a short demonstration, and invited everyone to create in whatever way felt right for them. The main activity was to choose an affirmation from several card decks and decorate it so it could be displayed somewhere visible and encouraging. I provided scrapbook materials, along with the option to make small pendants for anyone who wanted something more portable.

What stood out most was how naturally the workshop encouraged connection. Sitting together around the table, we were able to create, encourage one another, and catch up in a way we had not done in a long time. My friends especially loved choosing affirmations that reflected where they were in life. Many found messages that deeply resonated with them, which made the experience feel especially meaningful.

By the end of the day, we all agreed that this was a fulfilling way to spend time together. We decided to gather again in the summer and even talked about making this arts and crafts day a quarterly tradition.
